#8 Dare To Be Yourself

People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway

If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway

If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway

If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway

The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway

Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway

For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

Mother Theresa

I don’t know what narrative to put on this one but I.Love.It!!

Mother Theresa has just become one of my most favourite role model!! If she were alive, I’d literally send her baskets of flowers!!😅😅

I really hope this quote blessed and inspired you to be your best self as much as it did for me!!

Until Next Time!!✋

Code Red: When Everything Goes Out Of Control

I’m sure y’all are wondering what I’m referring to by ‘code red’, well it’s something called commonly known as “anger” (probably not what you were expecting huh!?). You might have seen that term in movies and books, when there’s a crisis, an attack anything that needs to addressed immediately. Well, anger is also an issue that cannot be ignored. If you have it, you cannot afford to ignore because it causes one to lose control.

Anger is a normal emotion we all experience at times. But when it gets out of control, it can cause problems in our relationships and in the overall quality of our lives.

This is not a small issue as some of you may think, because even myself sometimes I struggle with this anger issue. I often find myself losing my temper when things don’t go my way, when my expectations are not met, when bad things just keep happening to me for reasons I fail to understand, when i am belittled or face rejection and indifference, when my phone just suddenly decides to work against me and just switches itself off, when the bandwidth is not going fast enough, when i have a group work at school but nobody shows up for the work and I have to do it on my own for everyone, and so many other instances. I have realized that anger is like a deep pit, once you fall in it, it’s free falling with no end!! It causes one to lose control, really lose control over you emotions, actions, words, thoughts; just about everything!

Anger seems to be everywhere; you see it in parking lots, on the road, in supermarkets, in schools, homes, even in church.

Take this for example:

You’re stuck in traffic, making you late to work for the third time in a week. Walking in the door, you pass by a co-worker you cannot stand, who offers you a fake smile and a “you’re late” comment. You keep walking, but the anger that is simmering below the surface begins to move to the top. Upon reaching your desk, you notice a stack of work waiting that your boss wants done “ASAP.” You think about having a cup of coffee, then notice someone took the last drop and didn’t bother refilling the pot. About now, it feels like the top of your head may come off. You are truly cranky, and it’s not even 9 A.M.

Imagine what will happen when such a person gets home from work!!

As if that’s not enough almost every day a new twist on anger hits the newsstands. A high-school baseball coach breaks an umpire’s jaw over a disputed call. Two shoppers exchange blows over who deserves the first spot in a checkout lane that just opened. In California, an angry driver yanks a pet dog out of the vehicle that bumped his car and throws the animal into the oncoming traffic. The dog dies, and the man is sentenced to three years in jail. A 15-year-old boy gets fed up with being put down by his classmates and opens fire on them in his suburban San Diego high school.

These are just a drops in an ocean. Many of road accidents happen because of anger. Many marriages split because of anger. Relationships are breaking because of anger.

If you offend someone, you gotta brace yourself for an angry outburst, I remember I was walking in the streets one day going home, and I stepped on a guy, immediately I turned to him and said I’m sorry but it was as if my excuse fell on deaf ears, the guy started shouting on me, you’d think I had injured him for life. So it didn’t matter I said sorry or that it was unintentional, the first reaction was anger. I’m not saying everyone is like that, and I know there are people who are generally calm and collected but each one of us has had a brush with anger at some point.

According to Neil T. Anderson, in his book called: “Getting anger under control”, he says that sometimes we can’t help ourselves; He says and I quote:” We don’t have direct volitional control of the functioning of our glands. In the same way, we don’t have direct volitional control of our emotions, including the feelings of anger. We cannot will ourselves to like people we have an emotional hatred for. We can choose to do the loving thing for them even though we don’t like them; but we cannot simply tell ourselves to stop being angry, because we cannot directly manage our emotions that way. When we acknowledge that we are angry, however, we do have control over how we are going to express it. We can keep our behavior within limits; because that is something we have volitional control over. And we do have control of what we will think and believe, and that is what controls what we do and how we feel.” He uses a computer analogy to explain this anger phenomenon like this: our brain is the hardware, our minds is the software and we all know both have to work together; neither is any good without the other. The way it works for an angry person is like this, what is causing such an angry reaction is the brain (hardware), but it is the mind (software) and the way it has been programmed. Neither do the circumstances of life or other people and events that make us angry, it is our perception of those people and events and how we interpret them that determine whether we will lose our temper or not. And that is a function of our mind and how it’s been programmed.

Example:  Suppose you are busy shopping one day, when another person suddenly knocks you down and falls on top of you. You have no idea why the person has done that. If your initial thought is that the person is careless or rude, you will likely get angry. Your nervous system will respond immediately, enabling your body to react in a flight-or-fight response. If your external senses are telling you that the person is a thief who is armed, your adrenaline rush will help equip you to flee or protect yourself. If your external senses pick up that it was just some kids playing without supervision, you will be inclined to push them off you, dust yourself off, and reprimand them for their carelessness. Whatever the case, your anger is a natural response to how your mind interprets the data that is being picked up by your five senses.

Suppose your initial thought is directed toward the other person and not yourself. You may be wondering what has happened to this person who has fallen and is now lying on top of you. You may initially be angry, or at least startled, until your external senses give you some important new data. Now you realize this person is in trouble, and your anger quickly turns to sympathy, and that causes you to cry out for help. Then upon further examination, you realize that the person is simply drunk and has passed out. Now you are angry, and you push the person off with a strength you never knew you had. So how you feel is dependent upon the data you receive and how your mind interprets that data.

Can you see that!! So for some of us who have an issue with anger, then it is a programming problem, we gotta program ourselves the right way. But how do we do that? We gotta change our belief system because how our minds have been programmed is revealed by our belief system, which reflects our values and attitudes about life. In other words, what we believe does affect how we respond to the circumstances of life. If our identity and security are centered in our eternal relationship with God, then the things of life that are temporal have less of an impact on us. As we are conformed to the image of God, we will become a little more like Jesus.

Example: Suppose two partners in a business are confronted with a setback. They have just lost a contract they thought would bring them to a new level of prosperity. One partner, a nonbeliever, sees this as a financial crisis. He had believed that this new contract would make him successful. Many of his personal goals were going to be realized, but now his dreams are dashed. He responds in anger to all who try to console him and calls his lawyer to see if he can sue the company who broke the contract.

The other partner is a Christian who deeply believes that real success lies in becoming the person God created him to be. He believes that God will supply all his needs. Therefore, this loss has very little impact on him. He experiences some disappointment, but he doesn’t get angry because he sees this temporary reversal as an opportunity to trust in God. One of these two partners is stressed out and angry, while the other partner is experiencing very little stress and anger. Can faith in God have that kind of an effect on us? Clearly so, because in our example the difference is in the two partners’ belief systems, not in their physical capacity. From the wisdom literature we read, “As he thinks within himself, so he is” (Proverbs 23:7). How we behave flows from the reservoir of what we believe.

In short, how we react is as a result of how our minds are programmed, and the programming is as a result of what we believe; so we have to examine our belief for it our belief that sets the course of how our minds will interpret the circumstances that we face and thus determining the reaction we will have.

Your belief system cannot be that you are alone on this earth, that you are a failure, that nobody loves you, that you have to everything by yourself, that nobody understands you because it is such beliefs that will lead you to anger.

Some of you may feel that you can’t control your anger and reactions, but let me tell you something you can. If you believe it, really believe it, you can overcome your anger. I know a particular quote that says:” If you believe you can, you are right and if you believe you can’t, you are also right”

Take the belief that we find in Philippians 4:13: “I Can Do All Things through Christ Who Strengthens Me”.

Can you see that; the bible tells you and I, that we can do all things, not some things but all things through the strength of Jesus.

Here are a few questions one can ask themselves that may indicate the presence of anger; please let us examine ourselves because anger affects not only us but everyone and everything around us.

  1. Do you feel sometimes like hitting someone for one reason or the other?
  2. Do you feel an urge to retaliate when someone has insulted you or harmed you?
  3. Do you hate a person who has dealt with you unfairly? Or stolen from you?
  4. At night while lying in bed, do you think about people who have angered you? Who have hurt you? Could be a co-worker, a supervisor, husband/wife, parent or sibling; could be anyone.
  5. Do you willfully ignore a person? By pretending to be busy, or that you didn’t see them?
  6. Do you hung up a phone in the middle of a conversation?
  7. Do you ever walk out of a meeting or leave the house in protest?
  8. Do you interrupt others in the middle of a sentence? Either to justify yourself or to make a point?
  9. Do you sometimes feel like shouting at someone? You may not even know the person or that person may not have done you any harm.
  10. Do others frequently upset you?
  11. When you drive or travel, do you find yourself yelling at other people on the road?
  12. Do you throw things or kick things when you are angry? Your computer, phone, or any other thing in your path?
  13. Are calm in public but ‘different’ at home?
  14. Do you have good relationship with yourself, God and your neighbor?
  15. When things don’t go according to your expectations, or you face a difficult situation or you receive bad news, how do you respond? Do you react or act?

Words of Encouragement: Is it truly possible to be free from controlling anger? The answer to that question is a resounding “Yes!” Will it be a painless process? Probably not. Is it worth it? Absolutely, though you are going to have to come to that conclusion yourself.

Will you join me in this prayer?

Dear heavenly Father, You are a holy God, and You call me to be holy, set apart for Your use. Like You, I have the capacity for anger. But unlike You, I also have the capacity for using that anger wrongly. You have called me to freedom, but have told me not to use my freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather I am to serve others in love. Please open my eyes to understand the source of my anger and the bitterness of my soul. Free me from my past, that it may no longer have any hold over me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, that I may live a righteous life of patience, gentleness, and self-control. I thank You that You are indeed gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in loving-kindness and truth. In the name of the gentle and humble Jesus I pray, amen.

Thank you,

A Journey Into One’s Heart

Greetings!! Today we gonna take a journey into our very heart to discover our character.

So buckle up, it may be a bumpy ride. Let’s start:

What do I mean by character?

  • Character simply means that which does not change.
  • Character is a commitment to a set of values without compromise
  • Character is a dedication to a set of standards without wavering because it is those very standards that will create your character. For example; if you decide to be honest, then that will be your only policy, not your best policy as some business men say but your ONLY policy because character HAS to BE CONSISTENT and unchanging.

Consider the alphabet letter, they are called characters, why?  Because they don’t change; A is still A wherever you go, in America, Europe or anywhere; same with figures, 1 is still 1 whether it is used day or night, remains the same; same with principles they also don’t change.

  • Character is self-imposed discipline for the sake of moral conviction, in other words if you have character you don’t need someone always watching over your actions, you will police yourself, you will watch over your own actions.

The question now becomes, how often do you change? Are you the same person all the time? Are you consistent? Are you predictable? Who are you when you are alone and nobody is looking?

  • Character is the result of the integration of your words, deeds, actions into one. I mean, what you say, what you do and the actions you take becoming one. One without character will say one thing, do another and promise something else. In one word, character is integrity always and in everything.

To keep your character, you gotta be willing to sacrifice. Whether it is a relationship, time, money, resources because there will always be events and circumstances and people pulling you in all kinds of directions and in such cases, it will be your character or lack thereof that will keep determine what you choose.

It is important that one has character because it is what will make people to trust you; nobody wants to be around an unpredictable, volatile person. Character is the foundation of trust, that is why the bible says Love everyone but Trust only God because men are unpredictable and not trustworthy. In other words, if what you say, do and act is not consistent, uniform, one, then how can one trust you?

How can you trust a salesman who doesn’t use the products he is selling? I was discussing with a class mate one day, i was telling him about how a person can say one thing and do another and he said to me as an answer: “ Do what I say, Not What I do” and we laughed about it but later when I got home and thought about it, I was amazed to say the least. How can one teach or say one thing and do another, and expect people to trust what he is saying? If what he is saying is not working for him or helping him then why should he teach it to others? Why should it help others? I’d think that whatever it is, if it’s something to impart to someone else for their good, you’d start by using it on yourself.

Friends, this is not what the gospel of Jesus is about. Jesus practiced what he preached, even Apostle Paul said in 1Corinthians 9:27:” But I discipline my body and bring it to subjection lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” Can you see that!! So we gotta practice what we preach, what we say, otherwise we are not qualified to preach or teach anybody because we simply can’t be trusted.

Some people would gladly sell their principles, character for money, fame, popularity, or any other possession; such don’t realise that our future is dependent on our character not on our charisma, gifts, talents, beauty, speaking skills, ability to inspire people and others; in other words, our life is the weight of our character.

How stable are you?  Are you the same irrespective of the happenings around you? Are you like Job who remained righteous in riches and poverty, good health and sickness?  Job 1: 1-22

Do you have character?

I have realized that for a lot of us people, our situation is what determines our reactions and actions; sometimes even how we pray. If you are sick, your prayer becomes:’ Lord, heal me heal me’; when you are poor, your prayer becomes:” Lord bless me bless me”. Yet the bible says in all things give thanks and praise the Lord, this does not mean that you cannot ask for whatever you need or talk to God about your challenges but let that not be your focus, let that not be all that your prayer is about, let that not be the reason you are praying, because if that is the case, you will only find yourself praying only when things get tough and difficult and such is not true Christianity because Christianity is a relationship with God, in good times and hard times.

If you read Job 1: 20:” Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and he fell to the ground and worshipped

After receiving the bad news of all his possession being stolen, his children’s dying, the bible says that Job didn’t lament, he didn’t accuse God, he didn’t ask questions, he didn’t begin to see God in a bad light; he simple fell to the ground, knelled down and Worshipped.

He remained faithful to God; he remained consistent in his relationship with God. Right there you see that:” Those who bless God in their troubles and hard times prove their sonship.”

Consistency is the very character of God; you see it in Hebrews 13:8:” Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” This right there is consistency. See also James 1:17

It is God’s consistency that qualified Him to be trusted, relied upon, and depended on. I believe that’s why even Job remained faithful because he realized that even though he lost everything, he can still TRUST God because He is consistently good, loving, compassionate, reliable and dependable. Same with Abraham, when God asked him for Isaac, the bible says he trusted that God who gave him Isaac was able to resurrect him even from the dead. Hebrews 11:17-19.

Why is character so important to God? Because character is what will make your gift or talent to work and stay. Look at David, the reason he played the harp and the evil spirit in Saul was appeased wasn’t because he was the best harp player in the whole kingdom, it was because of his good character. If you read the whole of 1 Samuel 16:14-18, you will see how they describe David’s character: prudent in matters, a man of war, intelligent and The Lord is with him!! David was chosen because of his good character.Surely the palace already had many entertainers because there were no radios, dvds and tvs and these people also knew how to play music well, probably even better than David since it was their job of everyday. As David played the harp with his hands, the sound, the note entered into him and mixed with his character and integrity and that brought about the difference from what the other musicians of the palace played; when Saul heard that melody, the evil spirit left him. Think about it, do you think that if they had given the harp to someone else to play, would have the evil spirit departed from Saul? I think not! Because it was David’s character not harp that made the difference.

Right there you can see why you can’t just listen to any music you want because if David with his good character played music and evil spirits are leaving people, what will happen if a person with a bad character plays music!? Simple, demons will enter into people. Nowadays, the devil has distracted us with artists dressed nicely, unusual hairstyles, dances and choreographies and very well lit arenas that we don’t check the character of the singers and players. Realise today that its never about the quality of the music, the lyrics or anything else that matters but the character of the singer. Who is he/she? What is his/her life away from the stage? What inspires him/her to compose songs? Never be carried away and distracted by the gift but look for the character. If the character of the singer is corrupted then even his songs and music also will be contaminated. Check not what but whose music you listen to.

Unfortunately, most people are interested in and attracted by the gifts and talents but not the character whereas it is the character behind the scenes that makes it to stay and maintains it. You gotta be able to look at both the cup and the inside of the cup, in other words before you admire someone and take them as your role model, favorite artist, best friend, mentor; don’t only consider what you can see on the outside but also look at their inner person, that is their character.  Matthew 23:25

It is not wise to choose a role model, friend, mentor, business partner even wife or husband based only on appearances, social position, size of bank account, family background, or any other consideration but consider first their fruits, their works, their track record; all that so you can know what their character is, what makes them who they are. Look for consistency.

There’s a famous saying:” Power Corrupts”, I’m sure we all have heard of it yes? But it is not entirely true because it is not really power that corrupts but power reveals corruption. How? Because the Bible says in Matthew 7: 17-19:  that a good tree brings forth good fruit and a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit in other words, the person was already corrupt and when given power, the corruption manifested. I have had personally disapointments over disapointments  because i trusted people too fast, without waiting first to see the fruit and know what tree or what the character of the person is; and they ended up backstabbing and betraying my trust. So this is a very serious issue and I know I’m not the only victim.

After a person is dead and gone, it is their character that others will remember not necessarily their accomplishment, remember Tabitha in Acts 9:36-40.

After all is said and done, I mean at the end of the world, we will not be judged by the color of our skin, by the size of our bank accounts, but by the content of our character; Rev 3:15-16.

In a post titled: Check Up, I shared on some questions one could meditate upon and discover one’s character or state of heart. If you’re interested, you can find it here  and check yourself up so to speak.😁

Friends, let us work on our character, perfect your character, look at your life every time before you sleep and ask yourself: who am I when nobody is looking? What did I do? Why did I do that? And afterwards, work on that area the following day, improve yourself. As we do that, our life will be upward and forward; I mean we will start living a higher life with Jesus.

Let’s pray: Father in the name of Jesus, there is nothin that I can do on my own without your assistance, I ask today that you help me clean up my character. There are so many things that I have tried to hide from you and people, but nothing can be hidden from you, so many inconsistencies in my life; help me be consistent in my love for you, faithfullness to you, obedience to you. Help me to develop a holy and worthy character and give me a heart like that that was in Christ Jesus, in your precious name I pray!! Amen

God Bless You

Check up! Whenever one feels sick or uncomfortable, they go to the doctor for a check-up; that is, to see what’s going on and to know the state of their health. And so when one gets to the doctor, the doctor will examine their symptoms, ask a bunch of questions, all with the aim of trying to find out if the patient is sick or not; if yes, what is the sickness and where it is.

There’s another side also, when one goes to the doctor regularly like once every 6 months or once a year and so on. There might not be feeling anything abnormal health wise but they go just as a way of maintaining their health and knowing how things stand. This later practice is actually advisable to all of us. We shouldn’t only go to the doctor’s office just because we are sick but we should go even when we are feeling fine, just to know how things stand and better manage our health.

That is for the body.

But what about the health of our souls? What about the inner man, how do we check up for that? Our character, how do we know if all is well or if we have to improve something? For this issue, some go to mediation classes, others take yoga, others take vacation to Hawaii (I know I’d love that too), some use music and dancing, others go to comedy nights and there’s a whole other bunch of ways men have come up with; all of this in order to heal their emotional beings, their souls. But what about those who can’t afford yoga classes, taking vacation trips, meditations, music and concerts and everything else.

All the above ways one can do, I can’t say if it works or not because I’ve never done any of them, but I wanna share with you what I do and it works for me; I can guarantee that it will work also for whoever will try it as well.

It’s found in 2Cor 13:5:” Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Have you seen that? The bible here shows us a way to check ourselves up. I love this method because for one it is not expensive; because even though going to the doctor is great, you still have to pay for tests and others stuff; another reason is that as you examine yourself the God’s way, you will discover things about yourself that no machine or doctor can see or even diagnose, isn’t that awesome!!??

Sometime ago, I fell on some papers I had written for this particular task, and as I read through them, I was really humbled and I found that I was……..( oh wait, forgot to mention that the results were confidential too, between you and God.  Haha!!)

So, I wrote them down for all of y’all and I really hope that you’ll give yourself a chance and try to meditate and answer them truthfully. You don’t have to share with anyone your results but nevertheless if you find that you’re in need of a doctor who can heal you, body, soul and hearts; I’m recommending Doctor Jesus, here are his address: Acts 16:31, Rom 10: 9, Rom 10: 10….. His number can be found in His address book called ‘The Bible”; you can be assured that you will find Him therein.

Whatever results you get, Jesus loves and He is always there for you.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord (His name is Jesus Christ) shall be saved”

Without further ado, Welcome to the examination room:

All questions are compulsory if you want to know the truth about yourself

There’s no time limit, you can take as long as you want,

If you have a question, answers are in the Bible, precisely Jeremiah 33:3

The questions are in a such a way that it is impossible to cheat, don’t even try

  • Love: Are you treating others with the unconditional love of God? That is, do you do for others what you would like to be done for you as well?
  • Selfishness: Putting your own needs over the needs of others. Love is concerned with the welfare of other people; are you more concerned with yourself and how you feel?
  • Stealing: Can you remember taking money or property that was not yours? Prov 28:24
  • Cheating: Did you get anything from anyone unfairly or do anything in a way in which it’s not supposed to be done?
  • Lying: Have you ever got something or done anything using any form of deception?
  • Slander: Speaking evil of someone. You do not have to lie to slander; have you spoken about others without love?
  • Immorality: Are you guilty of stirring up desires in that you could not righteously feed? Sexual vice, all impurities even against your own body? Or even in others?
  • Drunkenness: drugs, sorcery, carousing and others; did you find yourself drowning yourself in alcohol or other ungodly products and thus defiling your body which is the temple of God?
  • Hardness: Did you fight back? Murmur or return evil for evil?
  • Habits: Have you continually over indulged natural appetites? How about your eating habits?
  • Half-heartedness: Can you remember times when you deliberately shirked your full share of responsibility?
  • Hindrance: Have you destroyed another’s confidence in you by needlessly taking up their time? Have you betrayed another’s confidence in you?
  • Hypocrisy: Did the life you lived before some people make all you said of Christ and His gospel a lie?
  • Broken vows: Is there a vow you made to God or to your neighbor that you have not kept?
  • Unforgiveness: Are you holding any resentment, grudge, offense against anyone; friend or foe?
  • Foul or polluted language: Do you engage in evil words, unwholesome or worthless talk, and filthy, silly, foolish corrupt talk?
  • Envy: Behind the talk of other’s failures and faults usually lurks envy. Are you not content with what you have?
  • Ingratitude: How many times have you said: ‘Thank you God” today? Or how many times have others done things for you that you have not expressed your gratitude for? Or are not grateful for?
  • Anger: Have you been bad tempered or quick to fly off the handle and taking rash decisions because of this or that? Prov 22:24
  • Cursing: Have you used gutter language? Words you cannot repeat in front of someone you respect?
  • Needless silly talk: Talking and acting anyhow, Jests and practical jokes that tend to undermine the standard of life; have you made fun of an ethnic group or a certain part of the world, a state or region in your country? Or some politician? Ethnic and regional jokes have no place in holiness.
  • Pride of life: What part of your life do you think you can handle without God being involved (career, sleeping, walking, eating, relationship)? Are you pretending in thought or life to be more or less than you really are?

Pride is the worst of all; the Bible says God resists the proud. Therefore let’s examine ourselves in these areas:

  • Do you focus on the failures of others or are you concerned with your own sense of spiritual need?
  • Are you self-righteous and critical or compassionate and forgiving, looking for the best in others?
  • Do you look down on others or esteem all others better than yourself?
  • Are you independent and self-sufficient or dependent; recognizing your need for others in your life?
  • Must you always maintain control or do you surrender control?
  • Do you have to always prove that you are correct or are you willing to yield the right to be correct?
  • Do you have a demanding spirit or a giving spirit?
  • Do you work to maintain your image or do you die to your reputation?
  • Do you find it difficult to share your spiritual needs with others or are you willing to be open and transparent?
  • Do you try to hide your sin or are you willing to be exposed when you are wrong?
  • Do you have a hard time saying:” I was wrong, will you please forgive me?”
  • When confessing your mistake or sin, do you deal in generalities or deal in specifics?
  • Are you remorseful over your sin when you get caught or are you grieved over your mistake/ sin and quick to repent and repair?
  • When there is a misunderstanding or conflict, do you wait for others to come and ask for forgiveness or do you take the initiative?
  • Do you compare yourself with others and feel deserving of honor or do you compare yourself to the holiness of God and feel a desperate need for mercy?
  • Do you think that everyone else needs revival or do you continually sense a need for a fresh encounter with the filling of the Holy Spirit?

If you have any particular question you can leave it in a comment, I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

PUSH: Make Your Dreams A Reality

Her water broke…
Clara was rolled into the theater, with her husband running behind the nurses, soaked in sweat and splatters of the broken water on his trouser, it was slimy.
“I’m sorry sir you can’t come in, her blood pressure is up and she’s almost having a panic attack, she’s gone into labor already”
“No, there’s no way! I have to be there!!!” “We’re sorry sir” they replied.
Sweat broke out across his face and it looked like he was the one with the panic attack. He loved her and would give anything to take her place in that labor room, but of course, that couldn’t happen.
Clara couldn’t take a minute more of the pain but she had insisted on pushing all the way. She was a nurse and had helped deliver countless kids. But this was even more painful than she expected. With her
legs spread out and head hurting so badly she thought she’d faint, Clara blasted into
wild tears.
“I can’t do it doc, I can’t!”
“Ma’am you have to push. The head is already out and this baby will die if you don’t!” The doctor’s voice was getting more intense and sharp.
Clara began to cry again, she had dreamt many nights about this baby, her girl, her first baby after five miscarriages.
“Doc, I’m so tired, please, I’m getting really weak”
“Get her husband in here right now”, ordered the doctor
They didn’t need to call his name a second time before Jeff came in rushing to her
side: “Baby, I’m here”
“It’s too painful!”
“I know my love, and I would give anything to do this for you, but I can’t” He began
sobbing as she screamed releasing a measure of the pain on his hands, he could bet blood wasn’t flowing in them at that moment.
“Baby, listen to me. For every child we lost, push!”
“For all the years that went by, baby push!”
“For everyone that laughed at you, push!!!”
“For the joy of having your own child, baby, pushhhh!!!!!”

And for the first time, Clara heard a cry that made her smile; it was the cry of a new born baby; Her very own.

You may be young, but you’re not young at all. You may have tried one thing or the other, or some of you may not even have a clue where to start. But there’s a hand holding you right now. Saying, you’ve wasted enough time wondering if you’re good enough, being afraid of the possibility of failure, it’s time to push. You’ve probably been a great part of someone else’s dream, you’ve helped birth other visions, that’s fantastic, but at the end of the journey, you stand alone on the finish line. So this is for you:

For everyone that talked you down,

For all the times your name was forgotten,
For the family that said they won’t support you,

For that friend that betrayed you,

For the mistakes that try to hunt you,

For every time you tried and failed,

I don’t promise that there’ll be no pain, as a matter of fact, I guarantee that you would have to cry sometimes, other times, you would want to give up, and it will look like every bone in your body is breaking into pieces, but for that dream in your heart, that change you want to make, that future you saw, IT’S TIME TO PUSH.
People can love you, encourage you, and motivate you, but when it comes down to the time to push, no two women give birth to one child. Make your pain useful, turn it into labor pain!

What‘re you gonna do?

Someone one send me that little story on whatsapp, and it made me think about that word Push and I realized that there was a particular meaning given to this word push, letter for letter, which is:

P: pray

U: until

S: something

H: happens

But, looking at it one can also put their own meaning like instead of pray, use play, panic, paint, pace, persist, persevere and many other combinations.. But the common thing there is even with the real meaning of the word “push” is that whatever you do, something will happen.

So we see that everyone has a way to get something to happen, some pray, others play, persevere, paint, panic, some even panic or pace; and others combinations one can use that start with P. The only difference will be the result, that something that will happen afterwards. Therefore, we agree that, what you do with the “P” will determine what will happen next or the results that you will get.

Putting all those metaphors and abbreviations aside, let’s consider the word push as a whole. The word push implies 4 things:

  • A reason or cause
  • Effort
  • Difficulty or resistance
  • Desired result or objective

In other words for one to push, there has to be a reason or a cause and one has to put in some effort because there is difficulty or resistance; that is it is not easy to achieve otherwise you wouldn’t have to push and all that effort will yield a result, the objective one wanted to achieve in the first place. So therefore, you cannot stop pushing until you get to your desired goal and objective; the focus, the reason of all that pushing and exerting so much effort is to achieve the goal.

Now that that’s settled, the issue now is how to make something happen! What is the best way to achieve our objective? What is the formula of success in all you do?

In order to see this clearly, I believe it is wise to look at history and learn from past experiences and accomplishments to see if there be anyone we can learn from and emulate. There is a saying that says that experience is the best teacher. But I believe that experience is a good teacher because experience will charge you too much tuition. By the time you’re done learning from experience, you’ll have no time to put in practice what you have learned.

Certainly there has been many wonderful and awesome accomplishments of men; men have made airplanes, cars, build buildings, bridges, roads, awesome gadgets, wifi, some even went to the moon, discovered galaxies, sent robots to other planets, and other accomplishments are still coming.

But the problem with learning from history is that, looking carefully around you will find that men don’t really like to learn from history.

A man will see his neighbor wallowing in his vomit because of drunkness, and he’d still go right on and get drunk.

A fellow will see his friends coming from a bad trip, and he’d go on the same trip.

You will see your neighbor stealing and getting caught and yet you’d still go out also to steal.

Men just don’t want to learn from experiences of other men. And they’re right!!

Men have certainly done great things but there’s one thing that they have all failed to conquer: Death.

All of them geniuses, inventors and great men we read about; have all died. And to me, this one thing disqualifies them from being good role model. You can use all the products and have all the surgeries you want but at the end, you’re gonna get old and die.

There’s only one man who has conquered Death and that man is JESUS CHRIST!!

The bible says, this man was extraordinary, awesome; really no words can truly describe him. In Acts 10:38:” How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.

This man Jesus Christ did what no man had done before Him and today his record still stands. Let’s look at some of the things He did:

  • He supplies strength for the weak
  • He heals the sick
  • He cleansed the lepers
  • He delivers the captives
  • He defends the feeble
  • He serves the unfornate
  • He regard the aged
  • He walked on water
  • He rose from the grave
  • He literally flew/ ascended to heaven

I wish I could describe Him to you but He’s indescribable, He’s incomprehensible, He’s invincible, He’s irresistible, the heavens of heavens cannot contain Him, let alone a man explain Him. Once you get a hold of Him, you realise that you can’t get Him out of your mind, you can’t outlive Him and you can’t live without Him

The Pharisees couldn’t stand Him but they  found out they couldn’t stop Him, Pilate couldn’t find any fault in Him, death couldn’t handle Him and the grave couldn’t hold Him. [That’s my King by SM Lockridge]

This same Jesus is the creator of everything that we see here on earth. So therefore, I’d say that He’s more than qualified to be our role model. so, back to our topic, let’s see how He did things, how He was able to do what He did.

First thing the bible tells us is that Jesus was prayerful man. Matt 14:23, Mark 1:35, Mark 6: 46, Luc 5:16, and many other verses in the bible

This shows us that Jesus took time to pray and if you read in the bible, men that really had an impact on their generation were all prayerful men, like Elijah, Daniel, Moses, just to name a few. So prayer is very important. But is it all?  I mean do we just pray and wait for things to happen? Remember in our definition of the push, we saw that there has to be effort or work to make something happen.

The bible also tells us that apart from praying, Jesus worked. John 4:34:” … meat is to do the will of Him that sent me and to finish His work.”

John 5: 36:” But I have a greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father has given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me that the Father has sent me.”

John 9: 4:” I must work the works of Him that sent me whilst it is day; the night cometh, when no man can work.”

See friends, Jesus was a workman, He worked the works that He was sent to do. May believers today just pray and do nothing. They think that something will happen all on its own, yet there’s no such thing. God will not do your work for you, He will only give you the strength and assistance whilst you’re doing it. God will not walk the journey for you, He will give you the strength to walk. You and I have a role to play.

That’s why this statement that PUSH simply means Pray Until Something Happens is incomplete and can never really bring about results.

Friends, this right there, is the formula of success. So apart from praying, we got work to do.

Finaly, Eph 2:10: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

That verse means that we have works, good works that God has prepared for us to do, it may be in your career, your education, your country, society, your family, whatever it is; you have work to do; a role to play!

Even the bible says in James 2:14, 17-18, 20, 24, 26, that faith without works is dead. Also remember that we pray in faith or by faith[ James 1: 5-7], and faith without works is dead meaning that prayer without works is meaningless, void, empty and often times destructive.

May the Lord Jesus who is our role model, bless you as you pray and work and may your dreams come true,

May everything that you lay your hand to do succeed because Jesus promised that He is with us always even to the ends of the earth, In the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen!!!

Remember The Best Is Always Yet To Come!!!

It’s the hardest thing to give away
And the last thing on your mind today
It always goes to those who don’t deserve
It’s the opposite of how you feel
When the pain they caused is just too real
Takes everything you have to say the word

It flies in the face of all your pride
It moves away the mad inside
It’s always anger’s own worst enemy
Even when the jury and the judge
Say you’ve got a right to hold a grudge
It’s the whisper in your ear saying set it free

It’ll clear the bitterness away
It can even set a prisoner free
There is no end to what its power can do
So let it go and be amazed by what you see through eyes of grace
The prisoner that it really frees is “you”

Those are the lyrics to the song: “Forgiveness” by Matthew West.

I stumbled upon this song one day and it really blew my mind because to be honest we all have one or two people in our life that has hurt us and every time you remember that; your heart is unsettled. I had a person like that too, and I struggled to forgive. And when I heard this song, it really spoke to my heart.

There are many definition of forgiveness of out there and I believe every person also has their own definitions. So in order to see it clearly, let’s look at what it is not:

  • Forgiveness is not sweeping the wrong or offense under the rug
  • Forgiveness is not remembering the wrong or offense done to one
  • Forgiveness is not holding grudges
  • Forgiveness is not seeking revenge or retaliation- “ an eye for an eye”
  • Forgiveness is not wishing bad luck or similar pain to others
  • Forgiveness is not bitterness
  • Forgiveness is not prideful
  • Forgiveness is not angry
  • Forgiveness is not resentful
  • Forgiveness is not slandering
  • Forgiveness is not in just words
  • Forgiveness does not depend the level or gravity of the wrong/offense

In other words, forgiveness is a lot of things but one thing that it is not is unsure. When you truly forgive, you know because it is from your heart.

Forgiveness has a standard. The standard of forgiveness is the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the standard of forgiveness because according to Luc 23:34; “ Then Jesus said,’ Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’

Here we see that Jesus forgave even those who mocked and killed him. Every time I consider this, I really wonder about the love of God. By doing this, Jesus became the standard of forgiveness, showing that forgiveness is necessary irrespective of the wrong done to us or the offense, we have to forgive. We simply cannot afford to cherish anger, bitterness, offense, unforgiveness, and revenge in our hearts.

When you read the bible, study the meaning of forgiveness, you’ll realize when God forgives you; it means He looks at you as if you had never sinned, as if you had never done anything wrong. You are then blameless before Him and that friends, is the Gospel; the Good news!!

A man like you and I can say today:’ I forgive you’, but tomorrow when you meet the same person, they’d take back their forgiveness; but God forgives and forgets. Irrespective of what you may have done, when you receive God’s forgiveness, it is finished, you don’t have to feel guilt, shame, embarrassment anymore because God has forgiven and forgotten your sin!! Micah 7:18.

The question most people ask themselves is:’ how can I forgive someone who has hurt me deeply?” To answer this question, let us first consider why we have to forgive. Forgiveness is so important because:

  • Forgiveness paves the way for harmonious relationship, even with an enemy.
  • We need to forgive because we need to be forgiven. No one is perfect, whether victim or perpetrator, no one is perfect. So we need to forgive because we also need to be forgiven ourselves.
  • There is no perfect relationship; whether with friends, family, co-workers, or any other relationship we can have. It is never and can never be perfect because nobody is perfect. Not even one.
  • When we forgive someone who has sinned against us, hurt us, offended us; God will also forgive us. But if you refuse to forgive others, then God will not forgive your sin either.
  • We need to forgive because being unwilling to forgive others, shows that we have not understood or benefitted from God’s forgiveness. I mean that, if you have been forgiven, that will create in you a forgiving heart towards others.
  • An unforgiving attitude not only destroys our relationships, friendships, but also poisons our soul; in other words, the person most hurt by unforgiveness is YOU, not your enemy or offender.
  • If we fail to receive forgiveness and to forgive those who offend, hurt, sin against us; we will find ourselves in a torture chamber. Matt 18: 21-35. Emotional torture, tortured with anger, malice, bitterness, and others.
  • When we fail to receive forgiveness and to forgive others, we will find ourselves having to do everything, be everything, depending on our own strength and ability and since that is not possible, we will find ourselves under high stress, working hard and struggling but never achieve any progress because the result of unforgiveness is a life of self imposed isolation, mistrust, bitterness, resentment and total cagey.

Looking around the world today, you see that many people are struggling to forgive the wrong done to them. They argue that it is too painful, too hurtful that they cannot forgive. Some will even say to your face directly even after asking for forgiveness that they will NEVER forgive you. Yet Jesus forgave those who mocked and killed him!! As He hang on the cross, in all kinds of pain He chose to forgive and prayed for his persecutors. How did He do that? Its because of Love.

Unforgiveness, offense, bitterness, revenge, anger is rampant in the hearts of many today because of lack of real love.

The solution that we need is to love, really love. Matt 5:44: “but I say to you, love your enemy, bless those who curse you, do well to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you…”

This tells us that, instead of hurting those who hurt us, taking revenge on them, cursing them, wishing them a worse fate; we are to show love to them and pray for them. Why? Because when you love your enemy and pray for those who hate you or curse you; this releases you from the destructive emotions of anger, bitterness, revenge, self-pity, depression, hatred and others.

Your neighbor could be anyone. The loud, rude neighbor next door, a person who does not share the same faith with you, a person from another country, different language, different background or family, whether rich or poor, whatever be the color of their skin, able or disabled, mentally sound or not, short or tall, skinny or fat, clean or dirty; I mean it could be anyone. We are to love them all!!!

As people of God, when our neighbor hurts us, offend us, we should more concerned about their relationship with God and less about nursing our own grudges, self-pity and ill will.

As people God, when we fail to forgive our neighbor, we cannot even pray. You will only hear yourself, people around you will hear you but God will not hear you. Matt 5:23-24.

We read in 1peter 3:9, that we should not repay evil for evil or retaliate with hurt but instead when people hurt us, say hurtful things about us; we should pay them back with a blessing. That is the will of God and He will bless us for it.

Eph 4:31: “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice”

Back to the question about how can we forgive those who have hurt us so deeply?

We need to first forgive ourselves; that is realize that we also need to be forgiven, that we are not perfect either and then forgive those who have hurt, offended us and sinned against us.

Say this prayer with me:  Lord Jesus, forgive of my sins because of Your abundant mercy and compassion. I forgive myself, help me to forgive those who have hurt me; I release them all from my heart and I ask that You fill me with love enough. To love You and to love and forgive my neighbor as myself in your Holy name we pray, Amen!!

May God bless you and Keep you in this Love!!

The best Is Always Yet To Come!!

Song of today: Forgiveness by Matthew West:

Worry About Tomorrow

Worry. This is a term that most of us are familiar with. We are always worried, anxious about something: our health, the weather conditions, our careers, our finances, our families, the security of our countries, food to eat, clothes to wear, the bills; I mean there are so many things that cause us to feel worried and anxious. Worry is everywhere!!!

We can all acknowledge that life is filled with trouble even it seems as if we are born to trouble. From the moment you leave your mother’s womb you encounter trouble. Life begins with a doctor’s slap on our butt (for some of us who didn’t volunteer ourselves and start crying immediately), we all face almost daily disappointments, we want to be strong but we find ourselves being weak, we want to be courageous but we feel overcome by fear (fear of sickness, failure, rejection, false accusation, fear of public speaking), we want to be successful but we fail repeatedly, we want to be loved and appreciated but people seem indifferent to us, when we do something good, it causes envy and jealousy around us; I mean the better a man is, the worse he is thought of by his rivals.

It is because of worrying about tomorrow that young men are leaving in boats and despite risk of death are going to Europe or America thinking that they will find a better life there.

The cause of stealing, killing, destruction we see all over the world is the urge to store up wealth, treasures here on earth. All of this because of worrying about tomorrow!!

We are all worried, you are worried about something and even I am worried about something and the reason most people are worried about tomorrow is because of money. There just seems to be not enough money for everyone. Rich people want more so they don’t become poor, poor people want more so they become rich; and it all turns into a never ending cycle.

Money is not evil, in fact may God give us money and a lot of it; but we need to realize that money is but a small slice of life; if one is all about pursuing money; a large portion of life will pass him/her by. When you read the story and proverbs of Solomon, you will realize that money is really not enough to satisfy one’s soul. You see, this guy was rich; he really had enough money to go around. The bible says he sat on a throne of ivory overlaid with gold, he drank from vessels,cups of gold, he had fish pools in his parlor and had 1400 chariots and their horses all waiting to be brought out in public for a grand parade. Yet, Solomon found out that;

  • Money is no substitute of salvation
  • You could have plenty in your purse but nothing in your person
  • You could be vogue on the outside but vague on the inside
  • You could have a full bank account but an empty soul
  • Money may buy material things but it just doesn’t buy deep down satisfaction
  • Money may buy a house but it cannot buy a home
  • Money may buy 4 years in college but it cannot buy an education
  • Money may get you a wife but it cannot buy love
  • Money can buy you a place in the cemetery but it cannot buy you a place in heaven

He concludes by saying that: “All is vanity and grasping for the wind” Eccl 1:13-18

Because of worry about tomorrow, people are doing and trying out all kind of things;

  • They’re trying to eat their way to ecstasy,
  • They’re trying to drink their way to pleasure,
  • They’re trying to smoke their way to smoke their way to settled nerves,
  • They’re trying to puff their way to popularity,
  • They’re trying to push their way to power,
  • They’re trying to bully their way to friendship,

And yet after all that, nothing changes; the world is still going from bad to worse and everything looks dark, gloomy and dull; there is war here, killing and stealing over there, corruption and disunity on the other side, unemployment everywhere; I mean your education cannot guarantee you a job anymore, what many studied is not what they are doing, there is oppression (physical, emotional, economic, political) all over!! All of this and more creates in one’s heart worry and anxiety; and makes one wonder how tomorrow will look like!!!

So, what is the way out? In this time and age, what confidence can one have? In a world that seems to be without peace and love, how can we not worry? In a time like this when friends turn to enemy and parents are divorcing, siblings are fighting with one another and there seems to be no one who’s trustworthy, how can we not worry about tomorrow? How can we not be afraid?

Looking at all this, it seems as though there is no hope but let me tell you that I have found hope, I have found rest, I have found peace and I have found all I need in Jesus Christ. This is what He said:

John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.

Notice Jesus is not saying here that we lack reasons to be worried but that there’s greater reason not to be. For the bible to say that we should not let our hearts be troubled implies that there are reasons, things, situations that can cause one to worry; but we should not worry but instead believe in God.

You see, what you believe or whom you believe is what will keep you from despairing, being worried and anxious (Ps 27:13). Why does God not want us to worry, it is because:

  • Worrying about the future destroys our sense of judgment; I mean our ability to think, to act and to make a wise decision
  • When we worry about the future, we will not be able to differentiate between God’s supply and Satan’s bait. Consider when the tempter came to Jesus in the desert to tempt him with food; the Bible says that Jesus was hungry but he was not desperate for food that is why he was able to resist the temptation of the devil. He waited for the supply from God.
  • Worrying about the future can cause one to become sick, high blood pressure, heartaches, stroke, etc…
  • Worrying about future will not help us at all because the future is a mystery; something beyond our reach and understanding. Only God know what the future holds and He is saying to us : ‘ Don’t worry”; so why are you still worried?

When Jesus was ready to leave the earth, he could see that the disciples were worried about the future, what will happen after he is gone; so he said to them:

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

He gave them Peace. And peace is the opposite of worry; if you are at peace then it means you are not worried. Friends, Jesus gave us peace, His own peace not the peace of the world. This means peace that cannot be found on earth. Peace from heaven where there is no war, no famine, no killing and stealing; and it is that Peace  that enabled Him to even withstand the crucifixion.  When you read about how he was crucified, and the whole process, the bible never says that he asked for help from anyone or that he tried to escape and even on the cross, after they had cursed him, beaten him, insulted, spit at him, he looked at all those who had done all that and prayed for them saying:” Father, Forgive them for they know not what they are doing” (John 23:34)

He prayed for the people that killed and crucified him, all this is an indication that through it all, He had peace for He believed that God was able even to save him from death and resurrect Him; He even said to the women who were crying for Him that they not cry, worry about Him but cry for their children (Luc 23:28). It does not mean that He didn’t feel the pain of crucifixion but he was able to endure it because of the peace he had in his heart.

And the bible goes on to say that instead of worrying, we should believe and be of good cheer that is be happy, content because Jesus has overcome the world. According to 1 John 5:4; it is our faith that is the victory that has overcome the world. When you have faith in Jesus, that is trust in Him; you have overcome and despite all the troubles, the unrest, you will not be agitated, stressed out and panic because you will have the Peace of God in your heart.

Phi 4:6 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

There is so many things to say about worrying and how the bible says we should handle it but looking at that verse, it is clear. The formula of a worry free life is Trusting In God and telling Him our worries and anxieties and He will give us peace through it all. Because it is only when you have peace, that you can think clearly and wisely make a decision concerning whatever you are facing.

It is that peace of God that we see working through the apostles and Christians as they were tortured, insulted, imprisoned, stoned, and still they kept the faith alive.

Jesus is offering you peace, through your challenges, saying:” I have overcome the world for you, I have gone through all kinds of temptations and I have overcome; come unto me and I will be your friend, partner, counselor, provider, protector, healer and deliverer, I will give you rest.”  Won’t you give him a chance? I can assure you that He is reliable, dependable and trustworthy; He will never leave you nor forsake you!

I understand that because of our upbringing and other factors, it is difficult for us to stop worrying and being anxious, and what we are talking about is not like a switch you just push and suddenly it is done; but every time you feel anxiety, worry, stress in your heart, begin to meditate and focus on Jesus.

What you focus on is what becomes real to you. I mean if you focus on worrying, then that’s all you’ll be able to do; just worrying and no solution. If you focus on the impossibility of a situation or a problem then it’s going to become really impossible!! Your focus should be: that whatever you’re facing is possible is doable. So focus is very important. So therefore, consistently focus on not worrying and being at peace. Bottom line is what you focus on, is what you become.

We see in Matt 14:26-33 that as long as Peter focused on Jesus, he was able to walk on water but when he took his eyes off of Jesus, and as he saw the waters and the wind all around him, worry, anxiety and fear entered his heart and he began to sink.

When you take your eyes, your focus off of Jesus, you begin to be influenced by the environment around you, what the situation looks like!! So Pay any Price to keep Your Focus!

Say this Prayer with me: Lord Jesus Christ, Take more of me; take my worries, anxieties, fears, failures, and Give me more of you; more of your peace, love, patience and perseverance. Lord I believe, Give me rest!!! In your Holy name I ask, Amen!!!

Continue to meditate on this, ask Jesus to take more of you and give you more of Him; and as you do this the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart from worry, anxiety, stress, fear, etc.

If you said this prayer with me in faith, get ready for God intervention. Begin to get excited about your future and always remember that Jesus Loves You as He does for any of his disciples!! Shalom. I’d also encourage you to find a living church and attend the services, you’ll be glad you did
